Vans started out as The Van Doren Rubber Company, founded in 1966 by James and Paul Van Doren and Gordon C. Lee, in Anaheim, California. With great enthusiasm for the shoes among skateboarders and aficionados of alternative sports such as snowboarding, surfing, BMX and motocross, the sneakers gained popularity as they were cool, comfortable, simple and affordable. Starting in 1999 and through 2018, The brand was the primary sponsor for the annual Vans Warped Tour, a traveling rock festival. As of 2004, Vans merged into VF Corporation and offers an array of lifestyle products including clothing, footwear and accessories, too.
